Thank you for considering the collections of the Johns Hopkins University, including Evergreen Museum & Library, Homewood Museum, and University Campus Collections. We invite loan requests from fellow universities, museums, and cultural institutions, both in-state and out-ofstate. We do not lend to privately owned galleries or individuals.

Submitting a Request
To start the lending process JHU requests an email or formal letter and loan agreement be submitted to the attention of the appropriate curator a minimum of 6 months prior to the lending date.
The letter should include the following:
- Information on the requested object(s), including accession number if possible
- Purpose of the loan
- Description of how the object(s) will be used
- Lending dates
- Venue
What to Expect
Once a request is received, the curator will send a letter of acknowledgement. The curator and registrar will then review the request. Please allow a 4-week maximum review period.
Consideration will be given to the following:
- Availability of the object(s)
- Object’s condition
- Conservator recommendation
- Proposed venue(s)
Please note: In some cases, a Standard General Facility Report may be required. Incomplete reports will slow the review process. The report will be a deciding factor in the approval of the loan request.
If approved, the registrar will send an email informing the borrowing institution of the decision and any specific conditions the loan will be contingent upon. If the conditions are accepted, preparations will begin for the requested loan.
Approved Loans
JHU requires a certificate of insurance to be on file before the loan is shipped.
Loan fees will vary depending on the object. The borrowing institution will be responsible for all fees associated with the loan.
Fees to consider include:
- Conservation treatments
- Framing, glazing, mounts, as needed
- Crating and packing
- Fine Art Shipping
- Courier costs (transportation, overnight accommodations, per diem)
- Photography, as needed
Please note: JHU does not charge administrative fees related to processing, research, or any other revenue generating charges.
Cancellation
JHU requests cancellations be received in writing two weeks prior to the shipment date. There is no fee for cancellation. However, the borrower will still be responsible for any related loan fees incurred by the University on behalf of the borrower.
